The vast majority of members run 1/8th scale nitro cars and as such this is what our race seasons are based around. We run two seasons. A Summer championship and a Winter championship. Depending on the weather these can consist of as many as 9 rounds. We also hold one off events for trophies as well as a team endurance race.
Race days are usually a great social occasion with many members setting up their pit area under gazebos (it does rain occasionally!) the BBQ’s are sometimes going and the PA system pumps out music in between races. The computer software also keeps everyone informed as to what the running order is during races and how much time you have left to squeeze in more laps
The day consists of 3 qualifying heats of 5 minutes each per class. Your best heat will determine which final you qualify for and where on the grid you will start from. Smooth and consistent racing is the key to securing a good grid position. It’s not about the fastest individual lap time its how many laps you can complete within the 5 minute time. The top 6 qualifiers will make up the A-Main final, the next 6 the B-Final and so on.
The winner of the A-Main final will receive 100 points, 2nd 99, 3rd 98 and so on with the winner of the B-Final 94 points, 2nd 93 and so on until all racers are accounted for. The individual who qualified in pole position will also receive a bonus of 1 point. These are the points that contribute towards your championship standing. Your best 6 performances from the 9 rounds will determine where you finish in the Championship table.
