Either I am too strong or the screw was weak  wink wink, but I have a broken clutch bell screw in my crank. Don't have the tools to drill it. Any volunteers to help me remove it, or does it mean the purchase of a new crank? It's broken about 2mm inside and tight.
Thanks. Cry

Hi mate
I did that too once. What I had to do was cut a small amount off the end of the crank to get the screw with pliers. Just means I need to use a few shims on the end of the crank now but it's never caused me a problem

Thanks for the reply Pete, unfortunately it's broken off too far (I think) inside for your suggestion to be an option. In order to have enough grab with pliers I would have to remove at least 5mm.

I have also tried a screw extracter, but the smallest one available is too big to get into the hole.

I'm just gonna have to wait until I can save up for a new engine. I don't think that the price of a new crank would be worthwhile on a second hand engine. Thats even if I can find one.  Been having a look and can't find the part I need.

Edit: Have now sourced the part, $53 shipped from A-main.

Jason , i would cut the 5mm off.   you can get extension sleeves that are designed for this type of thing.  Its worth a shot if your gonna buy the crank anyway

I cant find the extension things in the UK but im sure if you contact one of the shops here then they will most likely have them somewhere

here is a picture of them   (the 2 sleeve looking things on the top right of the picture  are the extension pieces)  Ive been running on in my caster for ages with no troubles at all after i had to cut a few mm off the end of my crank .

BINGO!!! Just realised I have one of those sleeves. Got it with my new flywheel. Will measure it up and cut the crank tomorrow.

Thanks for all your interest and suggestions dudes. I might still make it this weekend! well done

I was feeling quite despondant for a while there, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. I knew you guys would come to the rescue as always!

Couldn't wait, out came the dremel, then out came the screw.  party

Fitted it together and after I shorten the sleeve a wee bit I am sorted again.

BIG THANKS to Pete for waking me up to the fact that I have everything I needed to sort this, except the brain power!! You always seem to have a plan!

I did this one with my Axe Rossi Mamba.....I loved that engine!
I dremeled a slot in the crank and screw....then screwed it out with a flat screwdriver.  I used the engine for a good few gallons after that slot and it never caused any problems.

Glad you got it sorted  Smiley
